Regarding community service, Richards is a former member of the Montana House of Representatives (voluntarily retired); three official state advisory councils; one federal advisory council; and a county committee. Richards has founded or co-founded twelve public interest organizations; served as executive director for five; and board member of officer for eleven. Richards specializes in public interest advocacy and "free media" strategy. Richards draws from 37 years' experience as a reporter, editor, columnist, broadcaster, advocate, governmental advisor, candidate, and elected official to share how each might view a given issue or situation.
